Protecting a swimmable, drinkable, fishable future for everyone.
Lake Ontario Waterkeeper/ Swim Drink Fish Canada is an independent Canadian charity working for a day when every person in our watershed can safely touch the water, when the water is pure enough to drink, and when the lake is clean and wild enough that you could toss in a line anywhere and pull out a fish.
Our programs bring together law, science, culture, and digital media in order to connect and empower people to restore polluted places, protect human health, and promote thriving natural spaces.
100% of the proceeds of the Waterkeeper Gala Toronto support our core programs so Canadian communities can prosper:
Safeguarding 1,000 kilometres of Lake Ontario shoreline. Since 2001, LOW has prompted $1.5-billion in restoration and protection activities.
An internationally-recognized beach information service helping 1,000,000 people make healthier decisions about where and when to go in the water, preventing waterborne illnesses, and supporting 60+ nonprofit partners in 4 countries.
Our newest initiative, this online archive protects Canada’s water heritage through story. Somewhere, some waterbody is part of who you are. Register the waterbody you want to protect and share your story for posterity.
